Growing up, family vacations weren’t a part of my life. My dad traveled for work while my mom and I stayed home in our small town, where my graduating class had just 32 students. At 21, on a whim, I followed a boyfriend to Louisiana. That relationship didn’t last, but it was the start of my 15-year career in the fast-paced, unpredictable world of the casino industry.

I began as a blackjack dealer and quickly climbed the ranks. My career had me opening new properties, which meant frequent relocations. Thankfully, by that time, I had met and married an incredible man who was more than willing to move wherever the job took us. Over the years, we lived in six cities across three states before finally settling in Dallas, TX.

Once we planted roots, bought a home, and became proud fur-parents to three amazing pit bulls (far less intimidating than our neighbor’s chihuahua), we found ourselves missing the thrill of exploring new places. That’s when we decided to travel as much as time and money would allow, sparking my passion for travel in a whole new way.

Everything changed on my 40th birthday. A conversation with my best friend about dream jobs had me instantly responding, “travel writer.” Weeks later, she sent me a job listing for a travel agent trainee position. I applied, got hired, and underwent extensive training with a reputable agency. I loved helping people plan their dream trips, but then COVID hit. The travel industry took a massive hit, and I pivoted to a new role within the company to stay afloat.

But I couldn’t let go of my passion for travel planning. That’s when I did something bold—I started my own agency. Leaving the corporate world allowed me to create Off the Tour Travel, where I could provide the personalized service my clients deserve. Now, I help others explore the world and create memories, all while doing what I love on my terms.
