Etias requirements for US travelers
As of April 2025, U.S. passport holders do not yet need an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) to travel to Europe. The ETIAS program, initially planned for earlier implementation, has been postponed and is now expected to launch in late 2026. New requirements to travel to Europe
Once implemented, ETIAS will be a mandatory entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals, including U.S. citizens, traveling to 30 European countries. Travelers will need to apply online, providing personal and travel information, and pay a €7 fee. The authorization will be valid for three years or until the traveler's passport expires, whichever comes first. New requirements to travel to Europe
Currently, U.S. citizens can continue to travel to Europe without an ETIAS authorization. However, it's advisable to stay informed about the upcoming changes and plan accordingly for future travel.
For travel in the United Kingdom, the ETA system is live. If you have travel booked for 2025 already, you SHOULD go ahead and apply for the ETA. Cruise lines are already requiring it.
